Special Education

What is Special Education?

Special education is individualized instruction that is designed to meet the needs of a child with a disability, at no cost to the parent.  This instruction could include academic instruction (reading, writing, math, spelling, science, social studies, study assistance), but it could also include speech/language, physical therapy, or occupational therapy.

As part of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the federal government has identified 13 disabilities that may qualify for special education services.

The Special Education Department here at Wellington-Napoleon School District is here to serve your student and ensure they achieve at the highest level possible and this only happens when we work together as a team.  As a parent or guardian you are an extremely important member of this team.  If you have questions or concerns please contact your student's Case Manager first (Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Roush or Mr. Gooseman).  If you are unsure of who is your student's Case Manager or if you still have concerns after that contact please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Hephner, Director of Student Support Services.  You will find our contact information on the Staff Directory page.
